The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), has
introduced a new dimension into the just-concluded Post University
Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). The innovation, covers the
writing of the examination in one day and an essay submitted by each
prospective student, making it the first University in Nigeria to
introduce essay writing as part of requirements for admission.
Fielding questions from journalists during the tour of the test
centres, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, stated that
the University's level of preparedness regarding facilities and venues
was far higher than average. He noted that the University had a
carrying capacity of 3,500 fresh students, adding that almost 7,000
students were shortlisted for the examination from over 31,000 that
applied to the University. Professor Oyewole added that the main
reason for the essay writing was to understand why the prospective
students wanted to attend the University and also to help them to have
a clear vision of what they hoped to actualise when eventually
admitted. The Vice-Chancellor noted that although the opportunity to
get hostel accommodation was highly competitive, he promised that a
reasonable percentage would be given to fresh students, as he assured
the parents that the off-campus accommodation was also safe, as the
University maintained cordial relationship with the landlords of
students.
Corroborating the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor,
Academic, Professor Adekojo Waheed, said the University had introduced
the novel idea to improve on what was on ground before. He stated
that, "In FUNAAB, we are very pro-active", adding that the University
is assured of 100 per cent success. The whole essence is to attract
quality students and to produce good products. To get good products,
there must be good raw materials", he noted. Professor Waheed stated
that FUNAAB was the first University in Nigeria to introduce essay
writing as part of requirements for admission.
Earlier, the Acting Head of the Information and Communication
Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC), Dr. Olutayo Ajayi, disclosed that
the University secured 700 functional computer systems for the
examination, adding that three additional servers were provided to
forestall any inter-connectivity problems during the examination.
According to him, "the systems were configured with the software for
the e-examination and to tackle the challenge of electricity, the test
centres were put on dedicated power generating sets, while backup
power sources were put in place as alternative measures".
Meanwhile, the results of the Post-UTME test have been released since
on the 1st of August on University's website.

of the students complianed of low time, improper structure of the
examination and others?? Share your thought through the comment box,
