Tutorial: How To Calculate Your GP (Grade Point) And Your CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average)

Congratulation to all FUNAABITES who have just been matriculated, you
are now a full student of FUNAAB. Today we will be teaching you on how
to calculate your GP and CGPA. Your Continuous Assessments Tests (CA)
would be coming up soon.

Firstly, we have: 3 Units, 2 Units and 1 Unit course. Grades are
categorized like this:
Exam score %
70-100 - A, 'A' = 5
60- 69 - B, 'B' = 4
50-59- C, 'C' = 3
45-49 - D, 'D' = 2
40- 44 - E, 'E' = 1
0-39 - F, 'F' = 0

Let us calculate the GP for Erriz (an 100 level science student result):

Bio 101(2 unit) - 66(B) - 8
Bio 103(2 unit) - 52(C)- 6
Bio 191(1 unit) - 77(A)- 5
Chm 101(3 unit)- 71(A)- 15
Chm 191 (1 unit)- 63(B)- 4
MTS 105 (3 unit)- 68(B)- 12
Phs 105(3 unit)- 74(A)- 15
Phs 191(1 unit)- 65 (B)- 4
Gns 101(2 unit)- 71 (A)- 10
Gns 102 (1 unit)- 81(A)- 5
GNS 103 (2 unit)- 53(C)- 6.
Total grade Scores- 8+6+5+15+4+12+15+4+10+5+6= 91.
Total number of units= 21.
Note: The grade score is multiplied by the unit, i.e if one has
A(which is 5) in GNS 101(2 unit), it would be 2 unit x 5= 10. Same
applies for others course.
Your Current grade point or Gp would be Total grade scores divided by
total units. Which is 91÷21= 4.33. Which is 2nd class upper.
For CGPA if by 2nd semester one has Total grade score of 98 and a
total unit of 18.
Your current GP would be 83÷18= 4.61.
Your CGPA would now be your cummulative total Grade score (1st and 2nd
semester) i.e 91+83= 174 divided by your cumulative units (1st & 2nd
semester) i.e 21+18= 39.
CGPA will be 174÷39= 4.46(2nd class upper)
NB: it would continue to be added and divided like that in all sessions.
4.50-5.0---- 1st class
3.50-4.49--- 2nd class upper
2.40- 3.49--- 2nd class lower
1.50- 2.39--- 3rd class
1.0-1.49----- Pass
0.0-0.99 ---- Fail.
